The Crochet End of 2016

It's been 364 days, we're nearly there.
Just one more day, to lay things bare.

To clean out the closets, wash all the rugs,
to cut all those ties, that give you frequent tugs.

And emerge from the cloud of 2016,
to charge toward a new year, free and clean.

A bright day awaits, just a day away,
I'm ready to run towards it, away from the fray.

Sharing the Holidays

[All friends and colleagues, guests and friends. I'll feed them all, with cookies and roasted hens.]

The aliens are coming and they're bringing homemade pie.
Alien pie, it's sweet, and it can fly.
That's a sweet piece of space and I'm looking forward to the fun,
of seeing us all flying when the pie is all done.

I'm setting the table, inviting all around,
I'm opening my doors, to the people that can be found.
And we'll feast and laugh, until the darkness comes.
And only when we're all full, will the fun be done.

[Hoping you're enjoying a joyful holiday with friends and all]

A Few Days Late in Crochet Valley

[Hit with the flu, what else is new. Christmas was rough, what was I do do.]

Through a storm they travel in hail and wind. Through rain and thunder, over hills, around bends. With a stiff upper limp, a jaw set just so, they kept going, through the night, through the snow. And while some were late, some were tardy by far, a sleigh was the only way, they couldn't get there by car. So off they went, continuing their trip, to delivery each package to each happy cheek, merry chip. And with a happy wave, they set off again, to search for the next little one, with a happy face and dirty chin.

[A merry, happy, joyous December. I hope everyone is feeling their best, but if not, my condolences to the rest.]

Merry in the Light

[All the packages were wrapped, boxed, and shipped by Monday, so excited to have that done!]

Oh Santa, will we ever be done? There are just so many children waiting for presents to come. I feel I've been wrapping and packing and tying things with a bow and now I'm just frazzled and where are my scissors? I don't know. I've lost them in the workshop and I don't know where, it's because I'm so busy and I don't have time to get a new pair. I want the kids to be happy, for the night to be a success, but I feel we're strapped for time and the workshop is a mess. Can you call in the reindeer and call in the elves and call for all our friends to start emptying the shelves. Bring us the gadgets, the gizmos, and games and I'll wrap them all pretty, I'll wrap them all the same. And then we'll be done, finally done, and then off you can go to deliver every one.

Yes yes, I will do all those things. I will even wrap presents myself, until the bell rings. Then off I go, into the air one more time, to delivery the presents to each house in line.

[Six days to go, and a few nights as well, but it looks awfully likely, that Christmas will be swell.]

What'd You Get Me

[It's the elusive question that all ask, but never want to answer. Because you want to surprise someone, it's fun and when you think you've got the IT thing, you want to see the elation hit there face. Obviously, you could really really fail at this, but it's worth it for the chance. The small chance...]

I bought jewels and a dress,
I made a card (I made a mess)
I cooked a dinner and bought wine.
I volunteer complements all the time.
I think of fun things to say.
And then wait for the right time and day.
But I admit I'm at a loss.
At night I turn and toss.
During the day I look and look.
But you'll never know the time I took.
All you see is a small sliver of me.
In the little present you see.
I just hope you understand.
That this present is a symbol of something grand.
Something special and good.

Now come on, let's go get food.

[Happy December!]

Bringing the Magic In Crochet Valley

[I realize that some may not believe in Santa and we all may believe in different holidays and really, that's a great thing. Because we all believe and the fun of it being the holidays is all about being hopeful and kind to each other, regardless of various religious or non-religious events. So Happy Thursday, happy December, and Merry new year :) Plus, have fun crocheting :P]

We share a common heritage from one to you to all. And each year we like to celebrate each other, the small ones and the tall. So it's not about the differences or even the things that are the same, but that our caring and generosity are out in full force, and we make that very plain. We give to those in need, be it kids or family or friends, and also to those we don't know, those who's hearts our generosity helps to mend. A feeling of togetherness brings us all together this time of year, and hopefully just hopefully, it will extend to all of next year. So I'll see you at the table where we meet to share some food, and I'll see you at the store, where we buy some fancy goods. And I'll meet you at work or later for lunch today, and I'll meet you later tonight, so we can hang out after a long day. But let's meet up and spend some time, to really remember who we are, and to remind ourselves our differences are good and the space between us, isn't very far.

[I love me some happy poetry, don't you? Makes you all cheerful and stuff. Happy Thursday friends, have fun sewing in those ends.]

Looking in the Wrong Places

[I've been having difficulty hiding the presents from the kids. They are very sneaky and I have limited places to hide things...]

You can't hide from me. I'll find you under the tree. Or under the sofa, you'll be as clear as can be. You need to come out, show all you're about. Be free with your wrapping, your glamour you should tout. It's not easy be wanted, not easy at all. But I will find in the end, I will not be daunted. So reveal yourself, and celebrate with me. Because presents need to be opened, to really be free.

Oh presents, wonderful presents,
Sitting under my tree.
I'm so happy, just so happy.
To have you here with me.
Oh presents, wonderful presents,
All unwrapped and opened up
I'm so glad you're what I wanted.
And now let's clean up!

[Only 12 days to go, so close, so far.]

A Bit of Snow in Crochet Valley

[We had a out first dusting of snow the other day. Not like other places that have had foots of snow, but it was enough that we all felt winter upon us.]

There is a flurry on the ground in crochet valley. And there are unhappy critters (I'm taking a tally). There's the owls at house number two, and that bug that has wings and is blue. Ms. Bird was mad when I popped in. She said snow on the ground wasn't reason to check in. And then Mr. Bear, he was laughing a playing without a care. Which annoyed the bunnies and the chicks, they were annoyed and some were sick.

So there you go, tally done. The count at happy, only one.

But not to worry, it's still early. Come holiday time, they tend to fall in line. And then they're off on an icy slope, while Momma owl yells "Nope Nope Nope!" And the kids all laugh and giggle, while the elephant falls and wiggles. Trying to ice skate, when it's not in his fate.

A happy time here in crochet valley, When snow this the houses and every ally. And while annoyance comes first, it's glad to see that happiness eventually bursts.

So happy snow day to you and yours, if on two feet or on fours.

[Happy snow day!! Have fun making snow people and having fun!]

Bringing the Holidays to Work

[I may have a holiday cold, it's just to sad to bare.]

I'm missing the day
I missing the week.
I'm missing the cheerful cries of the meek.

And I'm tired of missing each event,
Special and new

I'm tired of missing
All the special moments too.

That time when the pie,
Slipped right out of your hands.
That time when it was hot
And you had all those fans.
That time when your order
Was all mixed up and wrong.
That time when Uncle Patrick
Introduced us to Uncle Tom.

I want to be there!
In the mix and the fun.
I want to be there,
With everyone.

So that's it,
This is it.
This is really it.
I'm bringing the holidays
To right where I sit.

We'll eat dinner at the desk.
Play games in the hall.
I'm sure no one will notice.
Not anyone at all.

[Holidays are rough, bring some cheer to your work neighbor so near.]

A Count Down Crochet Style

[I feel like all of December is a count down. There are a few holidays, like New Years and then those cool ones between now and New Years, and my niece's birthday. It just keeps going. So whichever one you're counting down to, here's on for you.]

There's only one drink at this party.
Only two entrees on the bar.

There aren't any plates.
And you've put out a tip jar.

The decoration are dusty.
Three mistletoe is too much.
I'm sorry it's impolite,
To decorate with Tiny Tim's crutch.

Four chairs for five guests,
A bathrooms that's locked.
At this rate by midnight,
The road will be blocked.

Six hours of music,
A little much for one night.
Especially when a seventh is planned.
I'm gonna lose it, I just might.

It's Eight and I'm leaving.
I really must go.
I'm headed straight home
To kiss my honey under mistletoe.

[A little pre-holiday fun with my lovely loved one. Happy Friday!]

A Party in Eighteen Days

[A bit too much fun, a bit too much play, but I'll take you over work, any day.]

Two friends in the park. Two hours before dark. Getting ready for adventure. Getting ready for fun, I'd venture. But there's something amiss, something that might wreck their bliss. A little hurdle from the past, they'll need to get over fast. What to do they thought, one was just over-wrought. But then they remembered their rule, no worries, we're cool. So they hugged it out, 'cause that's what friendship's all about. And off they went, with snowballs making their ascent.

Lesson learned?
Being friends is earned.
Don't worry about being spurned.
Just listen and be concerned.
And bad feelings will quickly be overturned.

Oh, yeah, and the holidays are awesome.
And outdoor games help friendships blossom.

[Lovin' the holidays. So fun for all. I'm really excited y'all.]

Summer Bee vs Snow

[I have to admit, I'm more of a summer bee. The's just not for me.]

I climb up
There's a wind
And the air is thick.
I need to get through
And quick.
The effort is so great.
I feel sick.
But I climb up.

I climb up
To the highest peak
Where the weather stops
Is where I seek.
I fall in the snow
And feel weak.
But I climb up.

I climb up
For you and all
So that we can win this fall.

I climb up
To find the truth
For you I search and sleuth.

And in the cold
And bitter wind.
I climb up.

To see my friend.
A person in red
With a bushy beard
Just jolly
Not weird.
A friend so happy to see
This little insignificant bee.
And so through the night
And cold day.
I skipped breakfast
Had no time play.
But I climbed up.

On Christmas Day.

[That wonderful bee. Isn't he nice to check on Santa for me? Happy soon-to-be holidays friends!]

A Little Tinsel in Crochet

[The tree is up! The decorations in place. And don't you know, I have a smile on my face.]

Our beautiful tree.
Tall and bright.
Room for tinsel.
And twinkling lights.

Warming our hearts,
Brightening our eyes.
Bringing us together
Those special family ties.

I'm glad we're together.
Decorating this tree.
I have the most fun.
When it's you and me.

[Getting closer friends, only 20is days to go!]

Monday, December 5, 2016

A Bit of Buzzing

[A day, a week, a reason to be off my feet. A toiling away, no time for play. But now, not today.]

There are snow flakes coming.
A cold wind on its way.
A breeziness
That discourages us from play.

But there are scarves for that.
A hat, fuzzy and bright.
So the cold weather won't stop me.
From flying my kite.

Not snow, not hail,
Not heavy wind from the east.
You'll be impressed by me.
I think.

[Happy times friends. Happy December!]

A Crochet Collection of Happy Crochet Fun

[I'm shivering in excitement for Friday.]

Day two of December
A day to remember,
Good tidings from Crochet Valley,
We're happy you're a member.

Twenty-Three days to go.
I admit it's going to go slow.
But remember,
The fun gets better when it's joy we sew.

I'm going to hug my friend,
Buy presents for the plants I tend,
And at work,
I'm going to bring doughnuts in.

And in twenty-three days we'll see
Just what Christmas means to you and me
Presents for all!
One for each, or maybe three.

Thursday In the Snow

[December 1st! So close, so far, presents and family time and har har har!]

Sam was worried and looking around in haste. Mouse was anxious to leave this place. There was something happening and they didn't now what. But their skin was tingling, and there was a 'put, put, put.' A motor? The wind? A monster? A friend? Who could tell, but it was scary, you kin? So off they scampered single file in line, but OH NO it was all for not, they hadn't left in time. Out from the sky, falling with speed, four snow balls completed the deed. A cold icy splash, hit one in the back, a wet icy ball his Sam with a smack. A few silly friends, rolled out from the snow, they were giggling and ticked and cackled like a crow. Sam and Mouse were annoyed for a bit, but then the game was on and the kids ran in a fit. Each made snow balls and tossed them aloft, and they landed on other, not at all a bit soft.

And for hours they giggled, and played in the snow. And they had so much fun, being silly and putting on a great show.

[Happy Happy December!!]

The Snow has Hit

[So really, there is no snow yet where I am. But I know it's snowed in New York and such, so here goes.]

The flakes fell lightly.
The sun shone brightly.
The sheep cried nightly.
The wind was so frightly.

But in the wind and hale and snow.
I saw you playing.
And it cheered me. You know?

It made me believe again,
Of playing with the sheep in their pen.
Of snow fights with you and yen.
And now the snow I will defend.
"Bring it on!" I say to them.
Those bringers of the cold cold wind.

[Brrr, friends. Bring a hat. It's going to get cold outside.]

Crochet Ode to Chocolate

[It's the end of the month, and my mind's in a frump. I need to beat this crumpf, "how 'bout doughnuts I say with a harrumph." But no, no doughnuts, just yogurt for me. I need to stay cheerful, but only for me.... Ok, hint, sing the poem because it's meant to be sung in kind of a sad sea chantey kind of way.]

Bumm babum
I've got a bit of Chocolate
For everyone.
A bar, a truffle, a kiss or two.
Chocolates make you happy...
When you are blue.

A bit of cherry in the middle
A chocolate bunny to whittle.
A swirl of nugget or two.
Oh Chocolate
Always helps when you're blue.

I've got one hidden away.
Behind a pillow,
In that hotel where I always stay.
And then in the car,
Behind some trash in the back.
A bag of mini bars
And extras in my pack.
Oh Chocolate,
So great for travels.
Oh chocolates,
For when your trip unravels.

Just the smell alone,
Makes feel like you're home.

A Monday Before December

[The inevitable Monday morning when you wake up and there are blue creatures flying around. Crochet creatures, because... why not? ]

I may be blue and not quite new.
But I'm beautiful, if only to you.
I bring you joy, like a brand new toy.
My whimsical features are happily, not a ploy.
Be free, be blue, be happy too.
Just follow my lead, take my cue.
Fly up to the clouds and hover there.
Let your imagination soar without a care.
And in the sunlight remember then,
That you can do anything. Just say when.

[Happy happy Monday! And soon, December, the month where all fun and whimsical things happen..... plus there are presents.]

Post Turkey

[Yes, I'm out shopping. I admit it.]

Dad I bought you out here to say one thing.
You mean everything.

We play fun games,
You tell tall tales.
We run about,
Chasing our tails.

You take me out,
To all the fun places.
We read books together.
And have spirited races.

And at the end of it all
You are always still hear.
To tell me you love me.
And hold me near.

So thanks dad for all you do.
I wouldn't be me.
Without you.

Round the Table We Go

[I made it to dinner, made it to lunch, we ate so early, it could have been brunch.]

All around now,
In case we miss it.
We need to look nice.
In case grandma visits.

Clean dress, clean tie,
No rips, no tie dye.
Brushed hair, brushed teeth,
A little laughter
Before we eat.

Not a snarky word was said.
Not a bad thought in our head.
Just happy hopes and dreams.
That no one says something mean.

Pass the rolls,
Pass the jam,
How 'bout turkey?
Oh yes, ma'am.

And a happy family day.
To you today.
Remember to laugh
and Play
And if they ask to,
Just stay.

Waiting at the Crochet Table

[I am headed out today for a little turkey with family. I'm sure the stuffing will be great, the turkey delightful, but the family is the best part of all.]

I'm waiting here
Not there, just here.
Where my seat stays warm,
And my vision is clear.

Clear to see the roast get cooked.
Clear to see how everything looked.

The food laid out,
Rolls and butter all about.
A wine glass or two.
Pretty china in blue.
A little child eating pie.
A embarrassed parent sighing "my, my"
A silly aunt sneaking treats.
To the hungry kiddos at her feets.
And a happy father in the back.
Laughing softly at the manners we all lack.

A little time not alone,
Is why I go home.

A Story of Crochet Turkeys

There once was a turkey,
Tall and proud.
He couldn't fly at all,
But he squawked pretty loud.

He walked through the woods
Quite as can be
He was hiding from you
He was hiding from me.

No one sees the turkey
If they don't want to be found.
That's how they survive
With their tummies so round.

So gather here children,
And listen to this tale
Of a proud little Turkey
Who only ate kale.

[Family time starts today! I mean, we always have family time, so, Extended Family time!! yeah...]

You uncle and your niece
Your cousin from Greece
Your brother and a friend.
Your sister's boyfriend Ben.
Your grandma and Aunt Betty.
And cute adorable auntie Gretie.
Are all coming to visit very soon!
So please please, clean up your room.
The shoes and the shirts,
Everywhere I look there dirt.
And food in strange spots.
Under blankets, in planting pots.
Just clean it up fast,
We don't have time to last.
And then off we can go
To the corner store.
Because all we need is more more more.

[Happy holiday shopping! I'm getting chicken :P]

I'm Crochet You Some Thanks

[They ask you what you're thankful for and you want to say "crochet and hooks" but end up saying my children....]

One week to go and I'm making my list.
Of all the things I'd cry if I missed.
Sports and TV and all that jazz,
It's great, but has no pizzazz.
Grandmas and Grandpas!
That's where it's at.
Hanging out, playing, and petting the cat.
Running in the yard with the dog and a friend.
It makes me thankful when each day ends.
School can be GREAT
And sports even better.
When I'm the one batting
And I'm wearing my lucky sweater.
So thank you to you and all and to none.
I've this one covered, so THANK YOU

[One week to go starting tomorrow! So excited for family, but mostly stuffing and cranberry sauce. mmmm]

Wednesday, November 16, 2016

A Thanksgiving Journey

[So say it's cold outside and you're really tired, but dinner is about to be served and you've got turkey and stuffing. But then you realize, there's no cranberry sauce. Do you run out because you can't enjoy dinner with out it, or do you just add more gravy and make the best of it? Let me know on the Crochet By Karin Facebook page.]

A journey most fit is just what you're to do
Something arduous, a trek fitting for you.
A few hills, a valley,
A river or two.
A large expanse with the sky so blue.
And at the end of the journey
Of you special trek.
We'll have a nice fete,
Outside on the deck.

I'll have chips and dip,
Drinks and more.
And if you didn't bring cranberry sauce,
Don't bother knocking on my door.

[Only a week and change left!! Getting excited for Turkey Day!!]

A Crochet Camping Turkey Gathering

[It's a bit too cold for me, but crochet turkeys like the cold, it makes me feel old, but I'd rather be home by the fire, then cold.]
They gathered to the spot,
Where last year they had argued a lot.
One-by-one they said their piece.
And planned to soon have a feast.
Something nice to celebrate,
Their putting away of their hate.
Friends and family,
One and all,
It's too much of a waste
To fight at all.
So gather they,
Here and now.
And with happy hearts,
They said "I'm sorry!" with a bow.

[Isn't it nice to reconnect with all your friends over the holidays? I know I'm looking forward to some well earned 'kid time' with my cuties.]

Crochet For Dinner

[The great thing about the holidays is all the family that comes to visit. The worst part about the holidays is all the family that stays to visit.]

We had a few bites for dinner,
A little sandwich for lunch.
We drank coffee and laughed.
But I had a hunch.

They were lingering too long,
Talking a whole bunch.
I was starting to wonder
If there was a hidden message behind each munch.

And come dusk
I knew what they were after,
They were hoping to distract me.
With stories and laughter.

But they weren't leaving,
Not budging an inch.
They were stringing me along.
Each hour, tightening the cinch.

So I did what felt right.
I asked them to stay for the night.
And it turned quite well.
A happy gathering, instead of a fight.

They were very thankful,
And I knew I'd chosen well.
And as a result,
I felt my heart swell.

[Happy soon-to-be holidays! I hope you have lovely family coming to visit!]

Family of Hooters in Crochet

[I have family coming to visit. It'll be wonderful, we'll run out of food...maybe...but it will be wonderful. And mom will make pie, love it.]

We have fun,
My brothers and I
We play in the fields
We fly in the sky
And at night when the chill comes

We hunker all down.
We cuddle and snuggle,

While the moon reaches it's crown.
The sky so big,
The night so dark.
We wait for dawn to hark.
And then to the skies once more
We go.
And soon to play happily
In the snow.

[I'm looking forward to the family time. Share how you like to crochet with family on the Crochet By Karin Facebook page for a chance to win a free crochet kit, next month we'll be releasing our Elephant kit!]

There They Crochet Are

[I just really want pumpkin pie.]

And there they are. Alone at last. Another season ended, the die's been cast. A little pie was made, not some summer squash, if the gourds had played, the game would've been lost. But Pumpkin prevailed against the strength of fall, while some got baked, the pumpkin won it all.

[right? right. Let's eat pie.]

Fall Feelings

[Too true guys, even for the crochet critters.]

Let me tell you what I think.
I think this stinks.

It's cold outside
The wind blows ice.
It isn't pleasant
Isn't nice.
My toes are frozen,
My lips all chapped.
I feel my happiness
Has been zapped.
I'm headed to town
To complain full out.
I want to know what this Winter
Is all about.
The Mayor needs to know.
Needs to fix this mess.
Or before too long,
We'll be getting, oh gosh, just guess.

Monday Deliberations

[To start the day with coffee or breakfast. You'd think both, but which do you partake of first? Is is the rich delicious flavor and aroma of your first sip of coffee, or is it a mouthful of bliss?]

A sip of bliss,
A bite so true.
It makes my morning bright and blue.

A warm caress, a splash of sweet.
A few eggs and toast.
Nice and neat.

It warms me up,
Brings me calm
Getting me going when it's not quite dawn.

And maybe I'll bring one for you.
Something special,
My own home brew.

And a bagel too.

[Happy Monday!]

A Little Crochet Pick-Me-Up

[When you're starting a new crochet project and the instructions are super confusing and has a lot of symbols and your friends tell you just to do something else that easier....]

The sand is hard on my feet.
My soles are beginning to cook in the heat.
I wish I could stop to eat.
By I carry on.

The wind pushes me away.
I move forward each day.
I will not be slowed by dismay
I carry on.

The words filter to my ears.
Someone else's worries and fears.
I can't be swayed by their tears.
I carry on.

A barrier can't hold me back.
It's just another obstacle to attack.
Just something else at which to hack.
I carry on.

I carry on.

[Happy crochet weekend everyone!! I'm at my craft show this Saturday, stop by and say HI!!!]

An Arm up High

[I'm pretty for a craft show this week, eek! But no worries, because I have humor and pizzazz to last! And if you're in the MD area, you should come by to see my hats and crochet kits!]

One up, one down.
All smiles, no frown.
That's who they are.
That's them.
Those wonderful
Those friends.

They are the cheer I keep near.
The happy that makes me sappy
The joy that tends to annoy.
Oh yes,
Those friends.

I will cheer for them.
And like a mother hen,
Watch over them.
Because those wonderful people
My friends.

[Ahhh Thursday, the better of the week days. Know why? football tonight]

A Meeting of Fish

[Post Halloween sadness guys. There's still candy, but now you feel guilty eating it. I wish that gleeful abandon lasted a lot longer than one night. But oh well, there's always Thanksgiving. Remember, we're in the holiday corridor now. It's all family time, pie, and hilarity until Jan 1]

Hey, How's it going?
Did you guys see me at Halloween? I rocked it.
Oh man I was so awesome. Like really really awesome.
And the cape right? The cape so cool.

His cape was cool,
He didn't look the fool.
He was super awesome.
And man, he could rule.

It might've not been THAT good.
With the outfit, I think he misunderstood.
It's not cool to dress up like food.
But whatever, I guess that was his mood.

He shared his treats with us.

He left us in his dust.

I don't know why you're making such a fun.

He. Nearly. Ran. Over. Us.

That wasn't him, it was a bus.

Halloween was fun.
It was great to be with everyone.
But it's done.
Let's all move on, now run.

[Yeah, there's always that one person. But they usually share the candy so it's all good. Happy Wednesday!!]

One Lone Crochet Pumpkin

[The trick-or-treating was excellent. The Candy selection, bountiful. The kids, adorable. And after it was all said and done. Football.]

Alas sweet friend we've reached the end.
I'm afraid for you, it's the pie or the bin.
I know it's not pleasant,
Not nearly the thing.
But we need to move on,
When the pumpkin clock rings.
You do have a choice.
I'll tell you this now.
You can run for it quick
Or you can become tomorrow nights' chow.
Whichever you pick. I need to tell you slick.
I plan on catching you anyway,
Because I'm pretty quick.
But I'll give you a few minutes.
Ten at the most.
To get out of here
And head to the coast.
But I hear they use pumpkin  flavored drinks to toast.

[Happy Halloween for those still celebrating and happy soon to be fall weather! Want to share in the fun? Post some pics of your jack-o-lanterns to the Crochet By Karin Facebook page!]

A Crochet Trick-or-Treat

[The day has finally come. All that waiting and planning and worrying, but we've made it. And now it's time to eat loads and loads of candy and be sick for weeks. Love it.]

A ringing a ranging the banging the banging.
Bring the candy!
Where's the treats!
I hear the shuffling of eager feet.

The sun has fallen before the hills
And now comes the giggles
And the shrieks of shrill
Happiness fulfilled.

I run to the door,
I fill bags with candy
Until I'm ready to drop.

But the masses keep coming,
Each cuter than the last.
I'm having the best time
They're having a blast.
But alas.

The night becomes dark,
Little ones shuffle home.

Where they'll eat like kings,
Eating in silent, happy and alone.

[Happy Crochet Halloween everyone! I hope your trick-or-treating brings great success!]

Three For Trying Crochet Halloween

[We had the trunk or treat tonight and it was SO much fun, really excited. First, it rained. So no truck or treat. But then we set up in the gym and it was super fun, and not rainy! So a win-win.]

On a foggy night
On a road in the dark.
I saw a strange sight.
And it made it's mark.

A whispering sound,
Caught my notice at once.
It was multiple people.
And they were talking a bunch.

Some noises were loud
High pitched and shrill.
One was low
One I knew to be Bill.

I snuck up on them.
As quick as I could
I wanted to see
If they were up to no good.

Bill was seated by a bonfire.
And shivered in the cold.
There was a car nearby
It looked rusty and old.

One very tall, spoke out just then.
He wanted them to go wondering.
And to cause trouble
In the glen.

But Bill wouldn't agree.
He was happy where he was.
And trouble caused problems.
And they shouldn't go 'Just because.'

So left was Bill,
Sitting all alone.
So I went over to join him.
Instead of going home.

We talked all night
And watched the fire burn down.
And when dawn began to bloom.
We headed for town.

And along the way we ran into
Those two trouble makers.
They'd been throwing eggs
And they'd been caught, those rule breakers!

A nice night for walking
And meeting up with friends.
But don't be up to mischief.
Because you won't like the end.

[Only a few days left! I hope your Halloween plans are in place, awesome, and that they all go as planned. PS. crocheting isn't a bad way to spend the night.]

A Meeting of the Pumpkin Minds

[I admit, I haven't carved my pumpkin yet. Isn't that terrible! Too busy. And I have a cold. And the dog...well, you know. something something. But, soon, I will carve the pumpkin soon.]

There's a field to the east,
By southwest street
Where you can find a treat.
Something excellent to eat.

It's round of course,
That's not something you force.
And it has a stem,
Because a'hem.
How else would you carry them?

It's not a popular plant,
Or popular treat,
But inside you'll find the perfect meat
For a bit of pie
A slide of bread.
And other wonderful things I've read.
A bit of mixing,
A side of baking,
And you'll have something wonderful
In the making.
So meet me there,
I'll be waiting by the old gray chair,
And together we'll find,
That special pumpkin,
To call all mine.

[It's just getting crazy now. Just.a.little.pumpkin.pie.]

Halloween Trick or Treat

[I've made bon bons. I've made doughnuts. I've made a myriad of cookies. But never candy. No, not ever.]

Pumpkins pumpkins, round and sweet.
They're fun to carve and fun to eat.
Toast them, roast them, bake them into pie.
Lick your fingers and say good bye.

Breakfast, lunch, or a late dinner.
Main course or side, each is a winner

Bring a fork,
Bring a smile.
We might be eating
For quite a while.

[mmm, pumpkin pie is so delicious it makes me all happy and excited. Please please let SOMEONE buy pumpkin pie for the work Halloween party because I really really want to eat some pumpkin pie. (ps. this is only slightly a subtle hint for those work friends that read my blog.)]

Halloween Anticipation

[I have not purchased candy yet. I admit it. I'm kind of behind. The costumes are in place, but I've got the trunk or treat and no idea what I'm going to do decor-wise. Spider webs? So, I will be headed out to get candy and decorations very very soon...]

A witch's brew can come in old or new. A stew if you wish, with a carrot or two. Add a toad, a speck of mold, and maybe the germs of a very old cold. Mix all together with an old tree's roots, your grandma's old boots, and some silly suits. Sure, add a few fruits. A good brew will need to stew so invite over the crew and have a party like the last one your threw. Dance a little jig, let people try on your wig, and stomp your feet like a giant that is very very big. Now bring all together and with words sounding very clever. Take a big swig.

[only a few days guys, it's virtually here (or maybe in a few days), but celebrate early anyway and post some pictures to the Crochet By Karin Facebook page. Share in the fun why don't you.]

Monday Pumpkins

[Only about a week left until that special day! I know, it's not my birthday, BUT even better than that - Halloween! Spooky costumes, cute costumes, silly costumes. The squealing of happy kids getting candy and playing games, it just does not get better than that.]

If you ring the bell three times
Spin around just so
And shake your toes
And your nose
I'll creep up, don't you know

If you throw a tantrum
Sing a silly song
Wrap the trees in TP,
Beat a metal gong

I'll come running
Just to have fun.
I'll come running.
And off we'll run.

Down the hill
Up the stream
In the night
Under the moon's beam.

Off to find trouble,
Off to have fun.
Off for the thrill
Halloween for everyone.

[So excited!! Got your costume? I do!]

Kitty Knows Best

[It's 1.5 weeks (less than that!!!) until Halloween and I am keenly excited. The kids have costumes, I'm doing the truck or treat thing, it's wonderful. Plus the grandparents sent candy in the mail! Bliss bliss bliss. Hope you're enjoying the candy, the crochet, and maybe some time in the sun.]

When dad says "let's go hiking!'
It won't be to your liking.
There will be bumps and hills and rocks.
I'd probably pack water and extra socks.
And maybe a flashlight
Just in case.
And maybe some bear mace.
Oh and matches if you can.
Some cookware and a pan.
Some soup.
He say's you're just doing a loop.
Bring a phone,
You can video tape your time alone.

[Happy camping, hiking, outdoors time, and fun!!! And bring yarn and hook cause crochet is awesome. Just saying.]

Rhino But You Know

[A little critter, crochet and blue, you see him, but he doesn't see you. Ahh the crochet rhino, the most magical of crochet animals]

Tip toe a little further,
Through the woods I go.
Headed for adventure,
With no one else in tow.
Zipping here and there,
Laughing without care,
Being free
Being me,
Doing what no one dare.
I can't jump too high,
Can't swim too deep,
But I have endurance,
And I don't really sleep.
So off to the horizon,
Where the animals do not go.
I'm headed there today,
What I'll find, I do not know.
But go go go,
Along a winding path,
I may not reach my goal,
But I won't ever be last.

[So run on out there guys, try a new crochet pattern, a new book, a new hiking trail, a new something. And have fun!]
