Slip Stitch Crochet Connection

Slip Stitch Crochet Connection

A slip stitch can be a great way to stitch two squares together. As you can see in the above picture, it ends up looking very pretty - kind of quilt-like.

Ok, before I get started I know you're all saying - "Where can I get that awesome square pattern??" Well, it's called a "Crop Circles Square" and you can find the pattern HERE.

ps. Crochetville is a pretty fun website if you haven't been there before.

Ok, so here we go. To slip stitch (the fun way!) two squares together, first grab your two squares and line them up, face up, side-by-side. Like so:

Next, grab your first corner and insert your hook in the front loop (that's the loop that's facing you), and pull up a loop.

This will be your first slip stitch. And here's where we make it interesting. You need to take your hook out of the loop (I know, crazy) and insert your hook in the front loop of the other sqaure's corner and then pull the loop through.

How's it going? Did you get the loop pulled through? It only feels weird for the first 3 or so times and then you get really fast at it. Just hold on to the loop with your fingers while you're moving your hook because it is really really annoying when you pull your loop by accident and need to re-do a few stitches.

Next step is to repeat again. So you insert your hook in the front loop of the next stitch on your first square and pull a loop through all loops on the hook.

Next, remove your hook and insert your hook in the front loop on the next stitch of your second square.
(see above)
Pull your loop through.

Next, insert your hook in the front loop in the next stitch of your first square and pull through all loops on your hook.

You get the idea right? Hopefully, if not I'll have to start making videos and no one wants that.

Here's a picture of the back since I know you're all wondering if it looks nice. I think it does, but you let me know. Alternatively, you can also work the slip stitch connection on the backside so they match.

If you like the idea, share pictures of your projects on my Facebook page or @cbkarin on Twitter. I'd love to see what you come up with.

Where There's Water There's a Crochet Fish

Where There's Water There's a Crochet Fish

Hey Shorty! How's it going man? Long time no see.
Hi Carl. Yeah, it's been a long year. But finally I'm free.

Where have you been? Some little boy or girl capture you?
Yes! How'd you guess?

I think it was the bit of ribbon stuck to your shell.
Oh yeah, she dressed me up. It was swell.

And is that a four drawn in nail polish?
Her brother. He made me feel quite foolish.

What did he do?
He made me race around a track and practice Kung Fu.

No way!?
So true!!

Wow, Shorty, I'm so sorry. I wish I'd known.
It's all good, I'm home and ready to roam.

So what brings you to the well?
I'm here to see the fish, I was hoping to stay here a spell.

He's gone I'm afraid, I've been looking all day.
Poor guy, I hope some little child didn't grab him up for a bit of play.

I'll hope for the best, but until he returns you might as well rest.
Yes, I'm sure he wouldn't mind, if I hung out in his well for a time.

Deep Crochet Thoughts

Do you think if the clouds fell from the sky, that anyone would be hurt?
The clouds fall from the sky all the time.

Stopping to Sniff the Crochet Flowers

Stopping to Sniff the Crochet Flowers

There's nothing better,
Than a long weekend in nice weather.

A nice summer day
Send kids out to play.

The flowers are blooming
And everyone is hootihooting.

So kick off your shoes,
and find some blues.

Get your sombrero,
And invite over some fellows.

Sing happy songs,
And beat on some gongs.

Because summer is here!
And it's time to CHEER!

A Crochet Parade is a Wonderful Thing

A Crochet Parade is a Wonderful Thing

That parade today was so wonderful!
Yes, wonderful.
Did you see that little girl with the tutu?! So cute!
Yes, cute.
And the bagpipers, I don't know how they do that, it looks so hard and yet it sounds so easy.
Mmm, bagpipers
Deedrah!! Did you even see the parade? You keep repeating everything we're saying.

Sorry! I was there, but well, did you see all the soldiers in uniform? They were all dressed up and looked so wonderful and I just felt really bad.

Oh, sorry, it was Memorial Day, were you feeling sad about all the brave people we've lost.

Yes, but I was really feeling bad because those guys must have been SO HOT in those uniforms. I was sweating and I'm not wearing a three piece suit!

[Happy belated Memorial Day everyone, I hope you were with friends and family this past weekend.]

Hide and Go Seek a Crochet Kitty

Hide and Go Seek a Crochet Kitty

Henry? I know you're there. Come out Henry.

It's only a matter of time Henry. You don't blend in very well with green. I'll find you.

Henry, I can smell you Henry. Better that you just give up.

You can't smell!! If you could you'd know you were standing on poo.

I knew that! I like standing on poo, it's good for the pads on my feet.

Oh good grief.

Follow the Crochet Leader

Follow the Crochet Leader

I'm sorry.
Come on, slow down. Don't worry!

I swear, I told everyone to wait for us.
There's no reason to cuss!

Bud, I can't keep up.
If you don't stop, I swear I'm going to drop.

The party won't start till we get there.
It's your birthday after all! It wouldn't be fair.

The balloons will be inflated and everyone will yell surprise,
No one will start having fun until they hear your happy cries.

Trust me please! This is all part of the plan.
Soon you'll say sorry for acting all Tarzan.

I got you a cool present! And a funny cake.
It's got blue frosting and it looks like a snake.

Ok, we're almost there. Try to act surprised.
Hopefully when you go in, they won't notice you've been aprised.

So jump back when they yell and look really happy
Or I'll get in trouble for telling and then they'll think I'm crappy.

Two By Tree Crochet Me

Two By Tree Crochet Me

Two itty bitty tweeters.
Hanging by some feeders.

One is named George, the other Beth.
They're both owls, but you'd never guess.

George crows like a rooster, Beth clucks like a chicken.
And it's one silly state they're both stuck in.

George climbed up to crow this morning,
Beth climbed up because to stay behind would be boring.

George couldn't crow very loud so Beth lifted him up,
But unfortunately, Beth caught a feather on a thorn and now they're both stuck.

Help is on its way, but not till tonight,
When Beth's dad gets home from his 5 hour flight.

So the two of them sit, two on a twig,
Thinking of things that start with S and things that are big.

The story here is clear and I hope that you caught it,
If you're going to do something silly and you haven't thought it through,
Bring your best friend, because no matter what happens, they'll be there for you.

Crochet Kitties are Always Hanging Around

Crochet Kitties are Always Hanging Around

The thing about crochet kitties is they like to pop up in the weirdest of places. Sometimes they're sitting on the bed when you wake up. Sometimes on the sink when you get out of the shower. Sometimes in your car after work. You never know how or why they're there, but in a strange wonderful way, you're pretty happy they are.

Crochet kitties bring us joy.
Crochet kitties are companions and toys.
Crochet kitties can be any color you like.
Crochet kitties can't help you ride a bike.
Crochet kitties will watch TV with you at night.
Crochet kitties make inefficient weapons in a fight.
A crochet kitty won't scare robbers away,
But the robbers' hearts might grow three times that day.
So keep a crochet kitty near at hand.
And be kind to all kitties real and pretend.

Those Crochet Pigs Jumped and Leaped

Those Crochet Pigs Jumped and Leaped

Three pink puffs huddled in their den.
The pigs were coming, and they weren't friends.

They had built their fortress from twigs and sticks.
It was the best they could do with no arms or bricks.

The pigs came and the puffs shivered in fright,
While the pigs tap danced on the fortress with all their might.

"Come out puffs! We just want to play."
"Yes yes, come out and we'll have a fine day!"

The pigs taunted and laughed and giggled with glee.
And that made the puffs irate, which means very angry.

The puffs roared at the pigs "We won't come out to play.
We're calling our friend, Sir Pups to chase you away!"

"It's not nice to bully, or chase, or taunt,
You're not being nice, this isn't what we want."

The pigs became quite nervous at the puffs' brave words.
They felt shameful and slimy, like greasy black birds.

"You're right, little puffs. We aren't being nice.
We're being quite rude and we should have thought twice."

And then the two pigs set off on their own
And again the puffs were left all alone.

It was a brave thing the puffs did that day.
Not until then had someone stood up to the pigs that way.

The puffs felt brave and good deep down.
And eventually became friends with the pigs in town.

Hiding in my Crochet House

Hiding in my Crochet House

On a warm summer day, three pink puffs hide in dismay from a threatening threat. A threat so large and terrifying that they can't help but feel threatened. But what is this terrifying menace? This ominous indication and imminent peril? To be honest, I don't know. But they look pretty scared right?

I imagine it's a dragon. With HUGE wings and gusts of hot flames coming form its mouth.

Or a bear that prays on small cute animals that can't possibly calm its endless huger.

Or a land shark. The mystical and terrifying apex predator that stalks the land at night, looking for a tasty bite.

What do you think?

[Tune in Monday to find out!]

Long Journeys Have Crochet Happy Endings

Long Journeys Have Crochet Happy Endings

Dad, will mom be there when we get there?
Of course, she said she'd have supper ready.

That was 2 days ago though. What if she's gone?
I saw her an hour ago get to the house, she just walks faster than us. Don't worry.

But what if she gets there and there's no food?
I had Marco the horse run some food up to the house before we started walking up here. There will be food.

No buts!! It's been 2 days, I can SEE the house, you can SEE the house. Be happy.

But what if we forgot something and need to turn around and go back?
Did you forget something and need to turn around and go back?

Crochet Summer Breeze

Crochet Summer Breeze

A wind is coming from the west,
And with it blows the bees of success.

The bees will buzz and swirl,
Their families will circle and whirl.

A happy baby bee will see a sweet flower and fly down low,
And catch a few drops of nectar before it must go.

But all bees are made to share,
And a baby bee doesn't dare.

A big brother or sister can be very selfish,
And a baby bee will get much less food than it'll wish.

So baby bee must eat quickly every drop,
Before someone makes him stop.

This may seem selfish still,
But baby bees are spoiled and will eat there fill.

So beware the baby bee,
They won't share and if you chase them they will flee.

Get your nectar, go now,
Baby bee will eat it all and then you and he will have a row.

Mom will get involved and you'll get sent to your room,
But bees don't have rooms so you'll fume,
Stuck for 5 minutes on a leaf in your gloom.

Nectar is sweet and success is divine,
Collect your own nectar so you can say "It's all mine!"

Crochet and the Amigurumi Stranger

Crochet and the Amigurumi Stranger

He traveled through the day, he crept silently through the night
The amigurumi stranger showed up without notice and gave us all a fright.

He was a wanderer, a man with no home and no bed.
A stranger with a thirst for adventure and not an ounce of regret.

He rides his much loved friend and companion, the mighty TURTLE, bred of brawn and might,
He's small and he's slow, but he'll best you in a fight.

Ahhh, the traveler, the man with the pointy hat,
Don't be afraid my friends, he'll sing a song and laugh and laugh and be gone just like that.

Surviving a Crochet House Guest

Surviving a Crochet House Guest

My word, that cute little whale was here all weekend can you believe it!?
I thought his mom was never going to get here. And then it was his dad that showed up.

Well I told you his dad was coming.
You said the bull was coming.

That's what you call a whale's daddy! Didn't you know that?
Of course not, I'm not a whale. I thought you were referring to the tall tales that little guy was spinning.

I say, you never listen to me.
If I never listened to you then I wouldn't know that you like sitting under this tree because it smells like fruit.

Aww, aren't you sweet. Heck, I can't stay mad at you. Come on, let's go clean up that little baby's mess and watch a movie.

A Crochet Whale of a Tale

A Crochet Whale of a Tale

And then when they weren't looking I snuck off and jumped in this guy's truck bed and he drove forever and ever and I thought he'd never stop, but then he did and we were at this gas station so I jumped out. There were all these cars around and I couldn't decide where to go next, but this guy saw me and was like 'hey you!' and I panicked and ran and ended up in this lady's backyard and she had this really cute dog, but I guess he didn't like me because he started barking and growling so I ran out of there and into this backyard and you guys seem really nice and at least you can't chase me because, let's face it, turtles are kind of slow walkers but anyways, I'm really thirsty, do you have any water?

Crochet Meet and Greet

So what brings you here?

Yeah, course.
I was hungry and they said there was free food.

I love that about you.

[I admit it, that would so be me.]

Crochet Owl Duet

Crochet Owl Duet

I'm just sittin' on the side of a tree,
Waiting for life to fall right past me.

I'm here sitting right next to Jim,
Waiting for something to fall right past him.

Jim and Kay:
And wouldn't you know a leaf just did,
But we weren't looking and it's already landed.

I'm still sittin' here waiting all day
We're waiting, letting the day waste away.

Jim and Kay:
Oh my goodness here it comes!
A leaf as pretty as the sun.
Don't let the joy of the day, slip away, slip away.
Go and and see the sun, go out and remember to play.

Ok I've seen one, so let's head home.

Maybe we can watch TV and call Mom on the phone.

Jim and Kay:
See you guys later and thanks for saying hey!
We're gonna head out, but feel free to stay.

We've got homework and dinner and such,
Maybe tomorrow we'll have better luck.

you know we shouldn't probably always rhyme,
I'm sure most people don't have the time.

To keep listening to us all day,
Waste time watching leaves drift away.

I Didn't Crochet For This

I Didn't Crochet For This

Ouch Ouch,
This isn't what I signed up for!

Ouch Ouch,
Someone help me to the floor!

Ouch Ouch,
My fins are really starting to hurt!

Ouch Ouch,
I really need to be more alert!

Ouch Ouch,
How was I supposed to know!

Ouch Ouch,
That teasing them would anger them so!

Ouch Ouch,
Next time I'll be more careful!

Ouch Ouch,
From now on I'll make being nice my rule!

Oh good they're putting me down,
I guess they never wanted to make me frown.
They just wanted me to see that teasing isn't nice,
From now on I'll think twice.

Crochet Social Hour

Crochet Social Hour

[Gary's had a long day and he's just arrived at Pete's house for movie night. The gang is all there: Ron, Jess and Pete. Jess is an old friend from college, Pete works with Gary, but in a different department and Ron is Pete's neighbor, but also a cool guy.]

Gary: Hey!
Group: HEY!
Pete: You showed up just in time, we've got pizza, popcorn, peanuts, coffee, pop rocks and James Bond.
Gary: A classic. Must be Ron's pick.
Ron: You know it!

[Jess nudges Gary] Jess: Did you remember to pick up soda? Pop rocks aren't the same without soda.
Gary: No worries Jess, I grabbed a 2 liter bottle.
Pete: Oh man, you need to share.
Ron: What's the fascination with Pop rocks? I don't get it.

Jess: Have you ever downed a whole pixie stick, then drank a soda?
Ron: No.
[Sighing] Jess: Ok, do that first and then come talk to me.
[Pete walks over, soda in hand] Pete: It's an explosion of taste and texture in your mouth. It's nirvana. It's hilariously tickilous and ridiculous and it makes us all feel like kids which is way better than feeling old and tired.

[Ron stares at Pete for s second and then looks at Jess who is vigorously nodding her head.] Ron: Ok, I'll try it.

Group: Wooot!

[Silly-ness is the best remedy.]

Don't Rest Where You Crochet

Don't Rest Where You Crochet

What are you guys doing?
We're resting.

I didn't know you guys got tired.
Not resting resting. Gil gathered too much pollen and now he's too heavy to fly. Also, he at too much and has a stomach ache. So we're just hanging out till he feels better.

Sorry Gil. Why don't you just leave some pollen behind and come back for it later?
You'd like that wouldn't you.

What do you mean?
I mean you're going to steal our pollen as soon as we fly off and Gil will be too weak to come and fight you off!

Wow, you guys have been eating too much honey. You're down right waxy.
----At this point, Gil did attempt to leap, but landed on his face and struggled for several seconds until he could right himself again----

I'm gonna go. You guys have fun.
That's right! No pollen for you here!

Sheesh, some bees have no buzzinus socializing with other people.

Chance Crochet Meeting

Chance Crochet Meeting

Hi Larry! What brings you here?
Oh, hey guys. Huh, not sure why I'm here. I was headed to the store.

Well, you should stay a while! We can play badminton.
Shucks guys, that sounds like SOOO much fun, but I need to go.

Let us help you find the store! We're great at finding things! Yeah, we found you didn't we?
I guess that's true, but I'll be fine. I'm sure you had things to do.

Oh no, we were quite bored.
No really, I'm fine on my own.

Larry, you aren't trying to get rid of us are you?
Oh no! Never. I just need to rush off is all. I'll see you guys later.

We'll be seeing you Larry.

[When chance meetings go horribly horribly wrong, feign expediency and run for the hills!]
